In August 2022, a STEM summer camp for Ukrainian kids was organized. The 2-week course was conducted by American volunteers for kids of Kyiv, Mariupol and Kharkiv (most of them displaced due to war and spent long time in bomb shelters, and many of them were not able to take
computers or textbooks with them when they had to flee) and covered HTML, game design, math and English. It was supervised by Cloe Zeng, Senior Director, Microsoft Business Operations (Seattle), and Sergei Vakarin, Chairman of the Board, UkraineIS (Kyiv).
For the participants in Ukraine, the STEM summer camp was a welcome reprieve from the uncertainty of war and a chance to spend time not just with subjects they love but also with other young people.
The project has proven a big success. We will conduct a new round of “Kids Helping Kids” courses as soon as the funding is available. It will take $20 to cover the cost of a single participant per day. Also, they need textbooks to study the material. We are asking for donations of any amount.
